The game features a prologue chapter, and this portion of the game will have to be played single-player. The one caveat that Techland notes is that co-op won't be available at the very beginning of Dying Light 2. Specifically, Techland says that Dying Light 2 players will be able to "play AND finish" the game together while using co-op multiplayer. But it hasn't been made clear how much of Dying Light 2 is open to co-op. It's known that Dying Light 2 will support up to 4 co-op players, so long as one player hosts the game. One of those areas is Dying Light 2's cooperative multiplayer functionality. Dying Light 2 is just two weeks away from release, but there are still aspects of the game that have yet to be revealed.
